Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration

CARBONDALE – The 20th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration will be held at the Carbondale Civic Center on Sunday, January 20 at 4 p.m. Doors will open at 3 p.m. for light refreshments and viewing of the community organizations' information tables. 

The theme for this years' celebration is "A Voice for Freedom and Justice." Murphysboro, Carbondale and Marion will all be participating in this year's celebration. 

There will be musical performances by the Carbondale Middle School Jazz Band, the Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale and Delores Isaac of Marion. 

The Spirit of Dr. King Community Service Award will be presented to this year's recipient by Carbondale Mayor Mike Henry and Murphysboro Mayor Will Stephens. The award recognizes an individual or group that exemplifies the character and legacy of Dr. King. 

Everyone is encouraged to bring canned or boxed food donations for the local food pantries. If you have questions or would like more information about the event, contact Carolin Harvey at (618) 303-1973.
