Welcome everyone to the new website for the City of Carbondale. By now you have hopefully discovered an attractive and inviting new look that showcases our community and makes it easier for everyone to find the information they need.
In the event that you haven’t had a chance to fully explore the new and improved site which contains over 4,076 pages, let me take this opportunity to highlight some of the added features:

3. Direct Links to Tourism and the many sites in and around Carbondale
As we continue to enhance and grow our website, your suggestions on how it can be more effective and useful are certainly appreciated. We welcome your ideas, and encourage your direct participation. After all, this is your government. Please be sure to bookmark the site and visit us frequently.
Happenings Around Town
In the coming weeks, construction crews will begin work on our annual sidewalk repair/replacement program. This year, we budgeted $80,000 for this work and we anticipate being able to install close to 2,700 linear feet of new concrete to assist our residents and guests.
City crews will be wrapping up our annual street stripping program shortly. We have over 135 miles of streets that we are responsible for maintaining which includes repairs, striping, and snow plowing.
Ameren Gas has developed a plan to replace the main gas trunk line that runs throughout Carbondale. This work will take several months to complete; crews are currently working in the area west of Oakland Avenue.
I would ask that you exercise caution when walking and driving in these construction areas. Your safety and that of the construction crews is very important.
Speaking of safety, if you see a street light out, please note the address where it is and report it through our Citizens Assistance Office, 618-457-3226. The information will be forwarded to the respective electric utility company for repair.
